Strategy
Whitefield Industrials uses a quantitative investment infrastructure to gather and assess information on ASX-listed companies and trusts and the markets in which they operate. This framework allows our team to:
- Maximise the efficiency, timeliness and consistency of decision-making while harnessing and making sense of the large amounts of data available in today’s marketplace;
- Rigorously assess, rank and rate stocks across a wide number of proprietary underlying factors that are aggregated into three fundamental dimensions relevant to investment - a business’s ability to generate earnings over future periods, the resilience of the business (quality) and its value;
- Systematically emphasise investments where their future earnings will deliver strength of return relative to their price over our investment time horizon.
Portfolio
Whitefield Industrials holds a diversified portfolio of approximately 160 ASX-listed shares and trusts, operating in all industry sectors other than resources. This includes businesses in the finance, healthcare, construction, consumer, telecommunications, manufacturing, services, property and infrastructure sectors.
The company uses a market capitalisation weighted portfolio structure that reflects the relative scale and significance of businesses within the Australian economy. This means that businesses become larger parts of the portfolio as their earnings, growth and scale increases.
Whitefield Industrials is Australia’s longest running listed investment company. It has operated for over 100 years since 1923.
The portfolio offers:
- A diverse exposure to the long-term growth of the Australian economy driven by Australia’s position as a relatively high population growth, high affluence economy;
- The financial security of Australia’s position as a relatively secure and politically stable nation;
- A decreased exposure to the boom and bust of mining commodities cycles in a manner that does not compromise long-term return generation;
- A decreased exposure to emissions-intensive resource businesses. The company’s portfolio has a carbon emissions intensity that is approximately 60% lower than the broad S&P/ASX200 index inclusive of resources.
